Engineering a safer job site: Essential safety and maintenance steps for HZS and JS-series equipment.

Safe concrete production depends on disciplined procedures, trained personnel, equipment condition, and compliance with local regulations. The following three-phase framework summarizes practical checks for HZS-series batching plants and JS-series mixers.

Important: Site-specific risk assessments, local safety regulations, lockout-tagout requirements, and the equipment operation manual should always take priority over general guidance.

Phase 1: Pre-Operation Inspection

Before production begins, operators should inspect the plant's mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and weighing systems.

Phase 2: Safe Operation and Load Management

  • Maintain exclusion zones: Keep personnel away from moving conveyors, hoists, discharge areas, and other hazardous zones while the equipment is energized.
  • Do not bypass safety interlocks: Electrical and mechanical interlocks should only be inspected or serviced by qualified personnel under an approved procedure.
  • Respond to abnormal conditions: Stop the equipment if abnormal noise, vibration, temperature, pressure, or current is detected, then follow the site's isolation and inspection procedure.
  • Power loss under load: Do not attempt to restart a jammed or fully loaded mixer without first following the manufacturer-approved isolation, unloading, and recovery procedure.

Phase 3: Shutdown, Cleaning, and Maintenance

After production, remove residual material according to the equipment manual and site safety procedure. Cleaning or maintenance inside hazardous areas should only begin after all relevant energy sources have been isolated and verified.

Cold-Climate Preparation

In freezing conditions, water and admixture systems may require draining or other winterization measures to prevent damage. Follow the equipment manual and local site procedure for pumps, tanks, valves, and pipelines.
